Josh Smith, Senior Director, Products, Portico Benefits Services
Josh leads the Products unit of Portico Benefit Services, a ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, where he designs programs and products to enhance the well-being of their 30,000 plan members. Since joining Portico, he has led a transformation of their health plan design to a navigator model combined with a robust set of personalized programs, allowing both members and the organization to take a more hands-on approach to controlling costs and improving outcomes. Prior to Portico, as Product Director at Optum he supported the advancement of their onsite wellness strategy and integration into the broader end-to-end wellness solution. Josh began his career in Accenture's consumer-directed healthcare practice during the rise of consumerism and consumer-driven healthcare plans. As a consultant and subsequent employee of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA), he helped deliver the BCBSA's first consumer-driven healthcare plan for federal employees and introduce value-based benefit design and wellness incentives for the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program.
